For about five years a tool by Robin Caron from Microsoft has been helping profiles to unload cleanly on Windows 2000 and 2003. 

Thankfully it's integrated into Windows 2008 and Vista in the form of the 'User Profile Service' (this integrated service has the same functionality as UPHClean 1.6d).

I only found this out by trying to install UPHClean on Windows 2008 - and it doesn't install, but pleasingly there's no need.
